Technical Analysis: The Burden of Skepticism

THE BURDEN OF SKEPTICISM

by Carl Sagan

Paragraph 8,

Speaking personally, I would be delighted if reincarnation were real. I lost my parents, both of them, in the past few years, and I would love to have a little conversation with them, to tell them what the kids are doing, make sure everything is all right wherever it is they are. That touches something very deep. But at the same time, precisely for that reason, I know that there are people who will try to take advantage of the vulnerabilities of the bereaved. The spiritualists and the channelers better have a compelling case.

i) Objectives in Technical Writing:

Here's my analysis in terms of technical writing.

The given paragraph is accurate as the writer talks about the precise reasons. It is organizational as  the arrangement of ideas, incidents, evidence, or details in a perceptible order. It is clear as the events and incidents are mentioned clearly. Conciseness has be followed as the events are described with necessary amount of words. There is ethics as the events are provided with reasonable information.

ii)Rhetorical Strategies:

In the paragraph, the writer is appealing with emotional facts so it is pathos. The writer has said that he would be delighted if reincarnation would be real so he could have a little conversation with his dead parents.
